Effective kitchen planning with Schmutz Carpentry

Functionality, aesthetics and individuality

The kitchen is undoubtedly the heart piece of every home. Here family and friends meet to cook together, eat and share precious moments. The kitchen is however not only a place of sociability, but also a workplace, where it can sometimes get hectic back and forth.

The art of kitchen planning lies in balancing these two aspects – sociability and functionality – while simultaneously preserving aesthetics and individuality.

For two generations kitchens have been the focus of our work. See for yourself and visit our kitchen exhibition with professional advice.

Space utilization and ergonomics

The basis of a successful kitchen planning is the efficient use of the available space. The arrangement of work areas – cooking, preparing, washing and storage – should be logical and ergonomic. A classic planning is the “work triangle” configuration, where stove, sink and refrigerator are arranged in a triangle to ensure short paths and a smooth workflow.

Storage utilization in kitchen planning

Storage utilization

We place great emphasis on the efficient use of storage space in your kitchen. Lower cabinets, upper cabinets, drawers, shelves and countertops are designed by us so that pots, pans, dishes, food and kitchen appliances are easily accessible and clear.

Modern solutions such as pull‑out shelves and drawers with soft‑close systems are standard with us to optimise storage utilization. A well‑arranged kitchen should bring joy and make everyday life easier.

Work surfaces

Choosing the right worktops and materials influences not only the aesthetics of your kitchen, but also durability and maintenance effort. What height should it be for you? With us the work height adapts to the customer and not the other way around. Whether stone, resin, ceramic tiles, glass covers or solid wood surfaces, we have the right materials and know‑how so that you can enjoy your work surface for a long time.

  • Granite: Durable, heat‑resistant and available in various colours and patterns, usually glossy but also matte or with pattern available.
  • Ceramic: Almost like granite, but not susceptible to acids. These covers are available in many colours and styles.
  • Wood: Creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, but requires regular maintenance and is more prone to scratches and stains.
  • Stainless steel: Timeless, hygienic and easy to clean but, depending on the execution, somewhat prone to scratches.

Lighting in kitchen planning

Lighting

The right lighting not only adds accents, but is also important for efficiency in the kitchen. Bright, glare‑free lighting over work surfaces and the stove, as well as atmospheric lighting over the dining area, creates a pleasant ambience.

Whether you need under‑cabinet, countertop lighting, a light in a niche, or a special request, we have a wide portfolio of solutions ready.

Color and material selection in kitchen planning

Color and material selection

The choice of colors and materials influences the kitchen's aesthetics. Light colors make the space feel larger and more open, while dark colors can create a cozy atmosphere. Our standard collection includes well over 500 colors and surfaces, and if that's not enough we have many other options available. Everyone will find “their” material here that suits them.

Are you looking for a glossy surface, prefer something matte or something extravagant? We offer an almost unlimited selection of materials for kitchens. Come to our exhibition and let yourself be surprised.

Personal style

The kitchen should reflect the individual style and needs. Whether modern, classic, minimalist or rustic – the design should match preferences and lifestyle.

Our kitchens have no standard heights; they adapt ergonomically to the ideal height, making work easier.

Sustainability in kitchen construction - Schreinerei Schmutz

Sustainability

Modern kitchen planning also takes sustainable aspects into account. Choosing energy‑efficient appliances, reducing waste through smart storage, and using eco‑friendly materials contribute to ecological compatibility.

We use Swiss wood and chipboard for furniture construction, we are convinced that a relationship with nature is important and we focus on regionality.

Together with our customers we systematically develop the right solution. A kitchen is only fully planned for us when the final concerns are resolved. Our kitchens are designed for a service life of 20 years or more, so it simply pays to look closely. Is there anything we can improve? Only then can we be sure the kitchen truly fits and a coherent solution for everyone is found.
